THE FORMER HOME OF THE MONK SEAL
Medvidina Cave is located southeast of the island of Biševo. It has been protected as a natural treasure since 1967. The origin of the name of the cave is clear if we know that the main inhabitant of the cave used to be the Mediterranean monk seal, a species which is endangered today (“Medvedina” = Seal’s). The cave is a real geomorphological pearl. The entrance to the “Seal’s” cave is large and wide, and is tapered as you progress inwards. The length of the cave is 160m and ends with small pebbles to which only small ships can reach. Our taxi boat can take you to the cave or you can rent a boat and explore it yourself.
